Qingdao Doublestar acquiring Kumho Tire

China’s Qingdao Doublestar says it has signed an agreement with creditors of Korea’s Kumho Tire to acquire a 42% stake in the company. The $830M deal could make Doublestar into China’s largest tiremaker and one of the world’s ten largest tire companies.

What does Nine Inch Nails have to do with carbon black?

Rock band Nine Inch Nails caused a bit of a ruckus this week by sending fans envelopes with promotional materials covered with what the media describes as a “strange black powder” but sounds an awful lot like carbon black (most likely toner). Fans received the envelopes after purchasing the band’s new EP, which came with what the band’s website described as a “physical component.” The envelopes contain a warning sticker stating, “This will make a mess.” No word on which supplier’s carbon black is the culprit.

Orion expanding carbon black capacity in Sweden

Orion Engineered Carbons has announced plans to expand carbon black capacity at its Norcarb Engineered Carbons AB plant in Malmö, Sweden. The project will debottleneck one line to provide additional specialty carbon black for fibers, wire & cable and adhesives & sealants markets.
